Fennoswedes

From time to time the questionmarks occure: Why does a blogger obviously living in Finland write in Swedish, or the other way around - why does a blogger writing in Swedish claim she's really a Finn, and not a Swede? Well, here are some facts about my country that often come as a surprice to people - maybe because we aren't that many and fortunate enough to be quite privileged in comparison to many other minorities. So far, that is...

Fennoswedes

What a perfect autumn picture! The queen of lakes and forests is watching over her land. :-)

And may I add that growing up in our little spot on this Earth is something I will always be grateful for. The delightful dialects of the region are a treasure!

Very interesting reading material there. Although the section of the British Swedes and Swedish Americans combined with British Indians and Indian Americans began to make me wondering if a Martian Russian was possibley the same as an Australian Martian, but then I thought nope surely not, but then again who knows. All in all after that whole section I determined that the rest of the world is just perfectly insane and the Swedish speaking Finns are probably (hopefully) not to disturbed by the convoluted mess that we English speaking people have caused. Alas I will have to say that I was lost in the woods and then after all that I looked at the title. Fennoswedes....I now have a mission, to educate those I know an maybe one day start a movement...to do what I am not sure yet....but it sounded good.

Thanks again.

Thank You! :-)

It's not a bad place growing up, at least it wasn't when we were kids, but there are certain parts of the mentality here I have never come to terms with: I am refering, of course, to the law of Jante
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jante_Law) which is a very strong common influence in our region. I still haven't figured out exactly why, but I would not be surpriced if it's all about religion... ;-)

The dialects are great - and what a variety!

Confusing, eh? Well, the whole world is! :-) However, You are very welcome to be our knight in shining armour no matter what the purpose might be. Now, tell me, what are the odds You would move to Finland and learn some strange fennoswede dialect instead of that beautiful King James' english You sometimes use? ;-)

How true about Jante Lagen! I was trying to explain it the other day to my husband. How deeply rooted it is, and how deteriorating it is. How this invisible "thing" hinders so many from being who they truly want to be.
That's why it's awesome to see that there are strong beacons of positivity and independence on the Ostrobothnian plains... and that I am fortunate enough to know a few of them! ;-)

What on earth were You doing in Hankasalmi? Next time it better be the coastline, W! :-)

Yes, Finland is very nice. Lot's of lakes and great nature. When it's not winter and dark and cold as h-ll, it's summer with mosquitos and drunken youngster on every beach possible, and inbetween You can always enjoy Yourself by crashing into a moose or two on Your way to work. ;-)

Welcome again, anyway! After all it IS the land of Santa Claus...
