They are ugly, they are parasites and they attack dead or weakened birchtrees. You could say they are the necrophiles among sponges... Yet I find them adorable. Just can't help it.

those are wonderful pictures...but do they go well with moose?
Ha! I remember those very well! We used to look for them and "write" stuff on the soft velvet underside of them. The forest near my house had lots of them.

These are not the mushrooms I would have with a fine mooseburger... *lol* Maybe use them as a plate but not to eat, since they with time almost gain the texture of wood.

My grandparents and I would sometimes go "hunting" for them. The ones of You who have followed my blog for a longer period of time might remeber that one of my relatives made art from them. Please, follow the link in my next comment. :-)
